How Mahuset recognises other states

Recognition is granted at three levels, and they are not equivalent.

Tacit recognition and a state of friendship may both be extended by the Minister of Foreign and Batyr Bloc Affairs on their own authority. These are the ordinary starting points for a new relationship, and the quickest route to one.

Formal recognition of another state is a heavier matter and cannot be granted by the ministry alone. It requires an Act of the Lazian Chamber or an executive order.

Recognition is not permanent. In January 2019 the Confederation repealed eight treaties with nations that had by then ceased to exist, and it has withdrawn recognition before where its neutrality required it.

Establishing relations

There is no application form and no waiting list. Write to the Ministry of Foreign and Batyr Bloc Affairs and say who you are, what you represent, and what you are proposing.

What helps is specificity. A note that your state exists is less useful than one that says what you would like to agree: mutual recognition, a treaty of friendship, cooperation on a particular project, or simply a channel to talk through.

What Mahuset expects

Neutrality is a rule here rather than a slogan. The Confederation stays out of micronational quarrels and settles the ones it cannot avoid by negotiation. A relationship with Mahuset does not come with a side in anyone else's dispute, and Mahuset will not ask you to take one in its.

Mahuset is a signatory to the Wrythe, Edgbaston and Montediszamble conventions, which set standards against fraud, against false claims, and against incivility between micronations. It expects the states it deals with to conduct themselves accordingly.

One standing exception to Mahusetan even-handedness is worth stating plainly: the Confederation opposes the Grand Unified Micronational and has barred any Mahusetan administration, present or future, from applying to join it. This does not prevent relations with GUM member states, and a number are already partners.

Treaties

Treaties of mutual recognition have been concluded with ten states, beginning with the Empire of Karnia-Ruthenia on 14 January 2016. Later partners include Atovia, Brennonia, the Angle-Saxish Kingdom and Salanda.

The Treaty of Mutual Recognition, Bilateral Relations and Friendship with Austenasia, ratified on 6 June 2025, is the fullest example of what such an agreement usually provides: recognition, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and non-interference. It is a reasonable model for what a treaty with Mahuset would look like.

Representation

Mahuset keeps no resident missions abroad. Informal representation rests with ambassadors-at-large, who act for the Confederation in particular communities rather than in particular states. Zabélle Skye-Greys has held the MicroWiki community post since May 2026.
